Kumaon is one of the two regions in Uttarakhand state, the other one being Garhwal. It is home to a famous Indian Army regiment, the Kumaon Regiment.
Being a important part of Uttrakhand Kumaon is still unexplored. So here I’am to give you a crazy ride to my own place “Kumaon”.
Ranikhet means Queen’s meadow in Hindi, it got its name from a local legend. Raja Sudhardev won the heart of his queen, Rani Padmini, who chose the area as her residence, giving it the name, Ranikhet.
In 1869, the British established the headquarters of the Kumaon Regiment here and used it as a retreat from the heat of the Indian summer.
So here I start with a heaven on earth my nanihaal “Ranikhet”.
The charming hill station Ranikhet is located in the Almora district at 1,829 mts above sea level. Ranikhet has everything to pacify the nerves of travellers.
The majestic view of pine trees, green forest and view of Himalayas gives heavenly feeling to the Queens land.
