Its been quite a time since we saw phone from Sony.
Sony Xperia 1 is flagship phone under the brand name Sony. It was first unveiled in February, but then got behind the curtain due to so much of happening around the space.
It has some features that seem like a breath of fresh air.
Let us see how it holds up against other devices.
Snapdragon 855 with Octa-core (2.84 GHz Kryo 485 Single Core, 2.42 GHz Kryo 485 Tri-core and 1.8 GHz Kryo 485 Quad-core).
For graphic processing it will be using Adreno 640.
Sony Xperia 1 is the first phone that has 6.5 inches of 4K HDR OLED display, with pixel density of 643 ppi, and screen ratio of 21:9 which they call as CinemaWide.
Screen resolution of 1644 × 3840. And screen brightness can maxed up to 390 nits in manual mode while in automatic mode it can go up to 665 nits while viewing photos and videos.
Corning Gorilla Glass 6 is present on this device with IP65/IP 68 Dust and Water Protection.
It will be great for consuming video content especially movies and of Netflix.
Sony Xperia 1 comes with a triple camera setup that is 12MP + 12MP + 12MP on rear and in front there is 8MP sensor.
In which the primary snapper is equipped with Dual Pixel Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF), the Telephoto lens also have PDAF.
They have incorporated their Eye Autofocus too along with 2× optical zoom.
For video recording they have a shortcut called Cinema Pro, which opens up plethora of customisation.
In Cinema Pro you get settings for changing ISO, Audio Level, Shutter Speed, HDR, Codec that you are recording in, White Balance, Daylight and Manual Focus.
It also features Hybrid OIS/EIS video and photo stabilisation.
You also get a dedicated focus and shutter button which is signature of Sony.
RAM and Storage –
Sony Xperia 1 comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage on board expandable upto 512GB using MicroSD card.
Battery is not huge considering the functionality it has to support, it has a 3300mAh battery.
Good thing is it ships with a 18W USB Type C Quick Charger so you can get back to work pretty quickly.
At first glance Sony Xperia 1 looks classy not fancy, some may prefer this look.

Phone itself is slim, and they also have cut down some of width, making it easier to grip and more workable with one hand.
Total weight of device is 178 grams, with dimensions 167 × 72 × 8.2 mm.
It will be available in black, grey, purple, and white colour options.
User Interface and OS –
Sony Xperia 1 runs on Android 9 Pie out of box.
The UI is clean and almost stock with some of Sony Applications.
Unique Features –
The fingerprint scanner is given on the side above which is Volume Rocker and below it the Power Switch.
There is Dynamic Vibration present on device which vibrates the phone little bit when heavy action like explosion happens.
It offers a Hybrid Slot which doesn’t require a key to open though the phone restarts every time it is ejected.
The whole phone has a IP65/IP68 rating so don’t worry about getting dust and water on the phone, It can be said the phone is monsoon ready.
Sony Xperia 1 is speculated to cost around ₹ 73,990, definitely it is not bugdet friendly flagship phone but given the package it seems like a fair price.
It is going to be tough for Sony when similar specs minus camera setup is available at half of the price.
The question is are you willing to spend some extra bucks for the crazy aspect ratio with 4K and unmatched camera utility?
