HD Kumaraswamy, the leader of the present Congress-JD(S) coalition government lost in Karnataka to BJP. The defeat was on the basis of trust votes. The Congress coalition won 99 votes but unfortunately lost 105 votes to the BJP. The BS Yeddyurappa led BJP government expressed its joy on its victory. On Twitter, the winning government wrote the following words: “It’s the victory of people of Karnataka. It’s the end of an era of corrupt & unholy alliance. We promise a stable & able governance to the people of Karnataka. Together we will make Karnataka prosperous again.”
HD Kumaraswamy, on the other hand, described its party’s defeat as unfortunate and in the assembly he said that he accepts this reality without fettering. The assembly debated the confidence motion for four days. He also apologized for the fact that his entry in the elections was uncalled for as he had publically declared to resign. Kumaraswamy had earlier planned to quit the party back when the 2018 assembly polls took place.
The politician said that he had no intention to drag the trust vote any further and apologized to the Speaker and the people of Karnataka. On July 23, 2019 the situation came to a rest after HD Kumaraswamy and congress leader Siddaramaiah gave their speech.
