What is Balidan Insignia:
Para (Special Forces) are commonly known as Para SF. It is a unit of the Indian army which handles special operations. It is attached to Parachute Regiment.
Balidan insignia is the biggest Honour given to Para special forces. The Balidan insignia is not used by everyone. This badge is used by para commandos. To use this insignia, commandos have to fulfill the condition of parachute Regiment by jumping from the aircraft & show their courage & spirit. After jumping 5 times from the aircraft on August 2015, Dhoni was honoured by balidan insignia.
Why Balidan Insignia is trending :
As we all know that, MS Dhoni, who is an honorary lieutenant colonel in the Parachute Regiment of the Territorial Army (TA), was having the Balidan Insignia badge printed on his wicket keeping gloves, during India vs South Africa World cup group stage match on Thursday.
As the result, the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday, just after the match between India vs South Africa, requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to have an insignia badge removed from Indian wicket-keeper MS Dhoni’s gloves as per ICC regulations.
According to ICC regulations, players cannot support anything that is related to politics, religious or racial activities. As per ICC- “no logo shall be displayed on cricket clothing or cricket equipment other than the national logo, an event logo, a player’s bat logo or a non-commercial logo as mentioned in regulations”.
Clarification by BCCI:
BCCI committee denied the claim of the ICC saying that “Dhoni did not break any ICC rule”. As the logo on the gloves is not of Paramilitary Regiment. As Dhoni itself cleared that the word Balidan (sacrifice) was missing from the gloves. The gloves show only the insignia, a dragger with wings, which is similar to the badge of Para (SF). Except for the word Balidan, the logo is same, therefore the BCCI has sent a formal request regarding the permission to allow Dhoni to wear the gloves with logo.
