There are two new sub-4 metres SUVs in town now, namely Mahindra XUV300 & Hyundai Venue and we are here to help you to pick the best one for you. Both the cars have loads of stuff to offer but which one offers best value for you buck? Let’s check that out.
Hyundai Venue offers 3 engine variants namely 1.2 petrol, 1.0 turbocharged petrol and 1.4 diesel. We have already seen 1.4 and 1.2 litre engines on i20 earlier but what’s new on offer is 1.0 turbo petrol that produces 118 bhp and 172Nm of torque which is the most powerful of the lot and is coupled with DSG transmission.
Whereas Mahindra XUV300 offers us 2 engine options, 1.2 petrol and 1.5 diesel. It doesn’t offer an automatic gearbox as of now but the diesel engine on offer is the most powerful in the entire segment.
The Mahindra XUV 300 offers more height and width so the headroom and shoulder room is not going to be an issue. Also, it offers more wheelbase than Hyundai Venue even when they both are similar in length. Cabin space is not compromised with the XUV but if you are someone who loves to take his car out for a spin with lots of stuff or bags then certainly Venue is the choice here as it offers more boot space than its rival.
Look & Feel
Both the cars look sturdy and have different styling but Hyundai has come up with trending split-headlamps and DRLs wrapping the lamps with indicators placed right above them and a large grille at the front. Mahindra does offer you projector headlamps but has more contemporarily historic looking headlamps with elements on the grille that are similar to its elder sibling.
The inside of both the cars are different and it is very subjective which interior you fall in love with. Personally, I love XUV300‘s interior because it is dual tone and cleaner looking and is more practical to use. Honestly, I also like the dials in the Venue but they make interior look very unhappening and you might have to take your eyes off from roads to operate them.
But it is the Venue which won many hearts when it comes to exterior styling and design. It has better looking side profile and alloys, better face and more punchy colours.
Although some variants of the Venue are priced higher than the Mahindra XUV300, they justify their price by offering more comfort and features. Moreover, the Venue offers more safety features than the XUV but that doesn’t mean the latter is unsafe. Also keeping in mind the fact that Venue is country’s first ever connected car, it is worth all the hype.
So if you are someone looking for space in your car and want the maximum power output from the engine then the Mahindra XUV300 diesel is the one for you. If space is the only factor that matters to you then you may also go for the petrol variant of the same.
In case you are looking for feature packed car and are more tech-geek kinda person then the Hyundai Venue might impress you with its long list of features. The diesel engine failed to impress the audience but the petrol is smooth to drive and gives you great ride comfort.
Most importantly, if you are looking for an automatic transmission then the only option available is 1.0 turbocharged petrol of Venue which is my personal pick out of all the variants and engine options we’ve seen. This particular variant has all the features one can ask for, it is easier to drive and offers a powerful motor to rev.
